Research and studies of the forest and its wildlife have been conducted since the early 1980s.
More recently, research has been undertaken by undergraduate and graduate students of Njala University and has included a wide range of inventory, including studies on avifauna, flora, rattans, monitoring mammals through photo-trapping, reassessment of the primate population, amphibian and insect surveys and ecotourism.
